Human factors research consultancy User Perspective provided advice and training for security teams at this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In support of the event, User Perspective produced a ‘definitive guide’ for human factors issues at temporary events.

The guide contains insight on a range of factors that affect temporary security teams, including clear communication, spatial and situational awareness, training and team management. It draws upon the company’s experiences auditing the security logistics for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The guide has been published on the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) website, and sits alongside the company’s other publications on the human factors of CCTV control rooms. An e-Learning package will be launched soon, as an addition to the integrated CCTV control room package.

Human factors research examines the effects of behavioural psychology in the workplace to understand how people are likely to process information and instructions. User Perspective has nearly ten years of experience in exploring the human factors challenges associated with major events, and has previously contributed to the audit of events such as party conferences, major sporting events and international summits on behalf of the government.
