Dr Yoko Nagai, a research fellow from the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) and Director of Biofeedback Global, has won the Clinical Science Gowers Award, a prestigious national award for epilepsy research.

The Gowers Award is presented each year by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) British Chapter. The ILAE is the premier professional association of doctors and other health professionals who are working in the field of epilepsy. The organisation comprises national chapters in over 100 countries, and its mission is to ensure that health professionals, patients and care providers, governments and the public worldwide have access to the educational resources that are essential in understanding, diagnosing and treating the condition.

Dr Nagai received the award at the ILAE’s annual conference in Dublin last month, in recognition of her research over the past 20 years. Her company, Biofeedback Global, is pioneering an effective non-drug therapy for epilepsy based upon her research; Autonomic Cognitive Rehabituation Training (ACRT) employs a combination of body response measurement and behavioural therapy to help patients with epilepsy to manage their seizures.

Dr Nagai is launching a crowdfunding campaign in early 2017 to complete development of an online platform that will help her to reach and treat many more patients using ACRT. If you would like to hear more about the campaign when it launches, please contact Biofeedback Global by email.
